Days In The Park Week In Review: (8/8 - 8/14)

Had a lot of fun writing our articles for this week!  We didn't hit every day of the week, but we sort of made up for it with a double posting on Friday.  So that works, right?  Just to recap:

On Monday, we challenged you with our weekly "Magical Mystery Mondays" to guess where in The Parks we were when we took a particular picture.  This week's came courtesy of the Five and Dime store in Mickey's Toontown in Disneyland Park.  We have a lot of fun with these every week, so make sure you stop by each and every Monday to participate with us.  Guess correctly, and you'll find your name posted on our blog come Tuesday morning!

Wednesday,we posted up some photos we took on a recent Friday night excursion into Disney California Adventure Park for our Almost Wordless Wednesday

And lastly, on Friday, we offered up twice the goodness with not one but two different articles.  We were blog hopping with our friend at Magical Days With The Mouse for Disney Flashback Friday, with a look at the old Playhouse Disney show from Disney California Adventure Park.  We were also riding the rails with the Magical Blogorail Blue Line, where we shared our "Top Ten Tips" for enjoying your vacation in the Disney Theme Parks

It should be a really great, but busy, week at Days In The Park!  We'll be recording Episode 8 of our Days In The Park podcast; always a great time!  Our show is doing really well still, and we're truly thankful for that, and for all of you who are listening to us.  We'll be recording and editing this week so we can get it out as quickly as possible, so be looking for that.  And it's going to be a huge weekend upcoming as the D23 Expo rolls into town at the Anaheim Convention Center.  We'll be attending on Saturday and Sunday, and we're looking over our schedules right now to decide what we most want to do and see, so when we come back, we should have loads to talk about here and on our podcast.  We can't wait to get out there and get knee-deep in the festivities.  If you plan on coming out for the Expo yourself, shoot us off a message and let us know; we'd love to run into as many of you as we can!

It's going to be a great week, so come on back.  We love having you around!

Disney Flashback Friday: Playhouse Disney

My kids and I were walking to school this morning, and we somehow or other got on the topic of old Disney Channel cartoons, and shows that they used to watch every morning during Playhouse Disney (now Disney Junior).  Many were the mornings (since I'm a Stay-At-Home-Dad) where we would cuddle up in blankets on the floor and watch such greats as 'Rolie Polie Olie', 'Out of the Box', 'Stanley', 'JoJo's Circus', and the words "Fruit Salad" (yummy yummy) still make me break out in cold sweats.  It was funny though, that the further back we went the less they were able to remember about the shows, and these were shows they watched every day.

Being the little Playhouse Disney addicts that they were, one of their favorite places to stop at Disneyland was inside Disney California Adventure Park, at the Playhouse Disney theater, in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.  Now the home of the Disney Junior show, the theater (before they got too big to want to go anymore) was the home to a live action/puppet show highlighting many of the favorite shows at that time that were showing on the Disney Channel each and every day.  It only made sense that they would gravitate towards it and want to go each and every time we went to The Park.  My wife and I have loads of memories of sitting on the floor in the theater with our two oldest watching their faces light up as they laughed, clapped, and yelled along with their favorite characters from their favorite shows.  Things seemed so much simpler back then, and it was a jolt to me with the realization of how big they are getting now, but it also it brings a smile to my face even to this day when I go back and think about, and look at, some of those memories.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Big Blue House..."

JoJo's Circus

Stanley

Winnie the Pooh

And although it was never a part of the Playhouse Disney show (at least, not that I can recall), no memories of those days would be complete without a little 'PB&J Otter'.  Although the boys tell me they don't remember this show at all, Daddy remembers it, and we watched it a lot.  It's always good to go back and remember things, isn't it?

Odds And Ends: Weekly Cap-Off (7/25-7/31)

It's been a busy week here at Days In The Park!  We're fully back in the groove of things now that our blog redesigns are done, and we only missed Tuesday this week!  Not sure how we did miss that one day, but we'll just have to assume something must have been going on and we'll have to make it up to you guys this week.  Just to recap:

On Monday, we challenged you with our weekly "Magical Mystery Mondays" to guess where in The Parks we were when we took a particular picture.  This week's came courtesy of the Greetings From California store in Disney California Adventure.  We have a lot of fun with these every week, so make sure you stop by each and every Monday to participate with us.  Guess correctly, and you'll find your name posted on our blog come Tuesday morning!

Wednesday,we celebrated a Park birthday for our "Almost" Wordless Wednesday when our very own M.J. turned "The Big 9"

On Thursday,we were back with our weekly article about our Vinylmation collecting with a "Vinylmation of the Week" piece; this week highlighting Janice from the Muppets Series #2

We were blog hopping on Friday with our friend at Magical Days With The Mouse, highlighting another fond Days In The Park memory; this week's featuring some of the Days In The Park Kiddies

And lastly, on Saturday, we spent some time talking about another one of our "Favorite Things" to partake of in The Parks, the Mint Julep

It should be a really good week at Days In The Park!  We'll be recording Episode 7 of our Days In The Park podcast which we're really looking forward to.  Our show is doing really well these days with quite a few people listening in, and we think we have another great set of topics to talk about in this one.  We'll be recording and editing this week so we can get it out quickly, so be on the lookout for it.  We also have some pretty cool articles coming!  Mark is busy writing an article about one of our favorite Park treasures from the Main Street Candy Palace (and it's not candy!), and we have a new video coming we shot on one of our favorite little attractions we want to share.  Plus, we'll be back with our regular segments so be sure to tune in for our "Magical Mystery" Mondays, "Almost" Wordless Wednesdays, and come back to hop with us for our "Disney Flashback" Friday.

It's going to be a great week, so come on back.  We love having you around!

Disney Flashback Friday: The Days In The Park Kiddies

It's a Friday and that means it's a "Flashback" Friday with our friend Magical Days With The Mouse.  Lots of good Disney stories and photos to be read and seen there, so be sure to check them out.  In the meantime, while you're with us, read on!

If you read our blog on a regular basis (and you should!), you'll no doubt notice that in many of our posts, the roles of the children are portrayed by a bunch of grown-ups who, for the most part, refuse to act their age.  But that's not to say that our real kids don't play a huge role in our Park experiences.  In fact, the kiddies might just play a big role in future "Flashbacks", so consider yourself warned.

In today's pictures, Mark shares a time when he carried his niece "Tyana" all the way from The Park to the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure, asleep on his shoulders after a full day of fun capped off by fireworks.

And Chad shares a special memory of his son "MJ" (yes, the same son who's now 9 and was featured in this week's Wordless Wednesday), who was 3 at the time, at one of his favorite shows at that age, Playhouse Disney (now Disney Junior).

We hope that you've enjoyed "Flashing" with us today!  We really love these little articles and it's the perfect excuse to go back and relive some great memories, and share them with our readers.

Until next week, make every picture a "Flashback"-worthy one!
