A Stroll With DITP: Disney's California Adventure

Strolling through Disney's California Adventure is a bag of mixed feelings right now.

While we consider ourselves geeky (we love the latest and greatest), we couldn't help but feel a tinge of sadness last Friday as we got our first look at all the construction taking place in DCA.

After all, some of my own family's earliest trips to the Disneyland Resort, and our happiest memories, took place in the California Adventure that was, and not in what it will become.

The murals are almost gone now

Walls are up in many places now, covering up the many construction zones
Gone are The Farmer's area, PT Fleas, and those "noise-makers" my kids loved so much

Work continues on the Little Mermaid ride.  It's been fun watching this go up!
The landscape of Paradise Pier is changing

In spite of all the changes, though, the memories we made will still exist.  They're not going anywhere.

And we try to bear in mind that Walt's vision was for A Park that was ever-changing, bringing something new and fresh on a regular basis.

We'll miss the old, but we're anxious now that the changes are coming to begin making memories in the new.

Farewell, Maliboomer.  I'm sorry we never officially met.

I know exactly what you mean... there was something really special about California Adventure for me that I'm sad to see go. I'm excited for the changes but I guess I never had the same disdain for the park as much as other Disney fans I've encountered. Especially the entrance... I've been so disheartened to see everyone Twittering about "good riddance to bad rubbish." I love that mural actually! Such fond memories of walking into that park for the first time. I hope the "improvements" live up to all the hype. :-)

Thanks for stopping by, Alyssa. I hope we can go back and forth on our blogs more and more frequently. I think we think alike. :)

I agree -- there was just something about that Park for us, too. We had some REALLY good times, there. I've been fortunate, I guess, to not have encountered too many people with "disdain" for it. That's hard to fathom. I'm going to miss the murals, and the letters out front. There's a lot I'll miss seeing.

I'm just going to try and go with the flow. Honestly, I'd be very surprised if I don't like what they do with it. Like I said, it just seems like a whole new wealth of memories waiting to be had. ;)

You know what is funny... I wasn't too into DCA until I had my son. Now I consider DCA our park. We spent more time in there during the summer then Disneyland. What?! I know!! Now we spend more time over at Disneyland again and that's because we have a new favorite spot. We did spend a lot of our days playing in the water area at the front of Bountiful Valley Farm. I will miss those memories of my son running and screaming with delight while getting wet. Those water areas inside bugsland just aren't the same. BUT like you said, we will have lots of new memories especially when Carsland opens. We really can't wait!

Awesome!

Thanks so much for sharing that. In all honesty, that's what this blog is supposed to be about ultimately; our memories. It's great that other people share in them and are willing to share their own as well.

We can't wait for Cars Land, either. Just great big kids; that's what we all are. :)

Yes, I can't wait for new memories... that's a great way of looking at it :-) I'm very excited for the Radiator Springs Racers as I like the concept of Test Track in EPCOT but wasn't much into the theming... I think this will be the perfect blend. :-)
