When we first got the notion to begin a Disney blog of our own, there was a certain amount of trepidation at the thought of doing so. After all, there are SO many great Disney, and Disneyland, blogs out there, the question quickly became, "What will make people want to read OURS?".
But about mid-week, we started realizing something. We're the kind of people that enjoy reading Disney blogs, and we read many of them. And many of them have the same types of information, just maybe with a different slant. We can read the same stuff on 10 different blogs and still enjoy it. And maybe if we're like that, others are too. The thought that maybe we didn't have to be completely different took hold, and we just started writing.
I have no way of knowing whether this is "good" or "bad", but all we know is as of this writing, we've had (in a little less than a week) almost 110 unique visits to our blog, and over 230 page views. Not to mention growing from 0 to 30 Twitter followers who have at least showed a passing interest in what we're doing.
Although we're doing this for ourselves, for fun, it IS nice to know SOMEONE is reading us. For that we are truly grateful.
We're going to keep writing it like we have a billion followers because it IS fun for us. Hope you'll come along with us, too. And if you are reading the same information on several blogs, why not make us one of them, too?
-Days In The Park
Weekly Cap-Off
Visits to the Park this week: 2
It was a huge week as far as Disney was concerned, between the Disney Resorts Press Conference on Thursday and D23's Destination D and Scavenger Hunt at Disneyland over the weekend. These are just a few highlights that personally interested us:
- Disney announced its new 2011 campaign during its Press Conference in New York, entitled "Let The Memories Begin". It's a campaign by which families will be able to submit their own vacation photos and videos, to Disney, to be used in their media campaigns (TV ads, commercials, etc.); in addition, roughly 500 lucky people a day will see their mugs projected up on Cinderella's Castle and It's A Small World. While we did get a smile on our face during the campaign seeing all the little kids go nuts in pictures and videos when finding out they were going to Disneyland(World), we were kind of ambivalent about the whole thing. Maybe we're too cynical? What do you guys think? Maybe if it had stopped at the whole "projecting" on the Castle and It's A Small World thing, it would be okay. But when its commercialized, we begin to squirm a bit.
- The Trashcan Trio have returned to Tomorrowland (and doggone it we failed to take a picture of them last night; we're still trying to get used to blogging and seizing those opportunities as they come). We did see them, though. They were beating on those trashcans like someone had just insulted their girlfriends. And in perfect time, too! Now if we could just see that little trash-can that rolled around and talked to the kids we saw that time several years ago, we'd be pretty happy.
- As huge Star Wars nerds, perhaps the largest news out of this week's activities concerned the revamping of Star Tours. Not only is there one variation of the new ride to be experienced. Not only are there 10 variations. We've been told there are 54(!) different variations of the ride. Can you say heart-attack?
- The seagulls have returned to Finding Nemo after a modest vacation. Mine! Mine!
- While the California Adventure Park that we all know and love is swiftly moving towards something we've never seen before, we can't help but be excited at the same time. We're really excited about ElecTRONica, the new night-time show replacing this summer's GlowFest, and the coming showing of the 3D TRON movie trailer which will be housed where Muppetvision 3D currently resides. We're anxious to see both!
- We're hoping Disneyland can cut down the downtime on Ghost Galaxy. We love that ride, but so far we're batting 1.000 this year on break-downs. Both times we've tried to ride there have been delays (once while we were on the ride). It's been kind of frustrating.
- We need to meet Frolo at the Villains Meet-n-Greet in Fantasyland. That is one bad dude.
We're sure there's more we could talk about, but those were the things that grabbed our attention.
For us, over the next week we're going to continue to blast out those blog posts (we have tons of ideas). What Disney character is Chad in love with? Find out! You know the Disney Princesses, but what about the Disney Divas? What's the best restroom in the Park? Find out (it's in our title after all)! Just a few of the things we're working on, in addition to our HalloweenTime posts and pictures, and ride perspectives. And we're taking the Happiest Haunts Tour in mid-October; we're super stoked about that.
We're also working on plans to begin a monthly giveaway too, so stay tuned for that!
All in all, a lot coming. Hope you'll be along for the ride!
