Odds and Ends: Weekly Cap-Off (1/24 - 1/30)

Visits to the Park this week:  2
We're continuing the "multiple visits in one week" theme we seem to be having as of late.

We just had to get back out to The Park for Character Fan Days (more on that this week) and Chad & Stephanie have a date night on Sunday evening (insert Woo Hoo! here).

Will it continue next week?  Most likely, as we currently have plans to go out on Friday and Sunday (yes, during the Super Bowl) again.

Last Week on Days In The Park:
On Monday  we went inside our first Family Fun Weekend at Disneyland Park and took at look at Kickin' Country Weekend

Tuesday, Amy began a new segment on her favorite things inside The Park with a look at cream-cheese pretzels and we also went mobile!

For our "Almost" Wordless Wednesday, we looked at a piece of Park history with Walt's Bench

We added another KILT (Karacters I Love Thursday) character as Amy toyed with The Wicked Queen on Thursday

Friday, we took the day off to deal with some much needed car repair

And finally on Saturday we took you back inside one of our favorite places in The Parks to hang out for a little foray into the Sorcerer's Workshop

At the Resort:
As we've noted for the last couple of weeks, on weekends between January 14 and March 6, The Park is hosting what it has dubbed "Family Fun Weekends"; five new and unique experiences meant to draw families into The Park.  This weekend is "Character Fan Days" at The Park, which has featured, much to the joy of many of us, tons of character meet and greets (including some rarer ones not seen in The Parks much anymore).  For the next 2 weekends, the theme will be "Happy Lunar New Year Festival"; Disney fare with an Asian flair! All events are currently being held at the Festival Arena near Big Thunder Ranch BBQ in Frontierland from 10am to 5pm, Friday through Sunday.  For more information on these and future weekends, check out the Disney Parks Blog.

There were a couple of other interesting items In-Park this week.

On Thursday Disneyland Park officially kicked off the 2011 "Let The Memories Begin" campaign and began nightly showings on "it's a small world".  Meant to be a means by which family memories are shared, presumably with everyone at The Park who is watching the show on any given day, photos taken by Photopass photographers during the day are woven into a tapestry of lights, music, and pyro apparently, on the "small world" facade.  Not sure what we mean?  It's harder to describe than it sounds.  Check out this video from the Disney Parks Blog and it'll all make more sense to you:

We admit that we were a little nonplussed and unimpressed with the idea to begin with, but having seen the video, we admit that The Park might actually be onto something here.  It looks kinda cool.  Guess we'll just have to check it out for ourselves one evening soon.  Shows are at 7:30pm Monday - Thursday, and 8 and 9:10pm on the weekends (per Disney Parks Blog).  So if you have your photo taken by a PhotoPass photographer during the day, you should check it out.  You just might find yourself up on the big wall!

Also, Blue Sky Cellar has re-opened in Disney California Adventure.  If you've never been in Blue Sky before, what the devil are you waiting for?  Part of the fun of waiting for all of the new attractions to open up is going into Blue Sky and getting a preview of all of them.  It re-opened this week with all new exhibits and information.  It includes all new information about Ariel's Undersea Adventure, Goofy's Sky School, the new Paradise Pier attractions, concept art, and more!  It also includes this ridiculously awesome animated painting of the new DCA at night-time.  We can't wait to get in there and check out this thing for real.

Here At Days In The Park:
Last week we had our big DLRN Tweet-Up!  This week, we're actually going to write about it.  It was meant to be this week's Friday attraction, but due to circumstances taken completely out of our hands, and placed into an auto mechanic's, it just didn't happen.  We're very sorry about that!

We'll have our usual "Wordless Wednesday" and "KILT" posts ready to go, and hopefully Amy will agree to write up another "Amy's Favorite Things".  People really seemed to enjoy that one so we're going to keep doing them for sure.

We'll also continue our foray into the Disney Animation Building for our "Saturday Slow-Down", hopefully have some more "Family Fun Days" information, and maybe a surprise or two.
